High-precision coordinate measuring machines
Auxiliary axis for high-precision coordinate measuring machines (kmg)The QuadSlimLine high-precision rotary axis was developed specifically as an auxiliary axis for high-precision coordinate measuring machines (kmg) to simplify the measurement of symmetrical or prismatic components, including scanning applications. It not only simplifies measurement procedures, but also expands the kmg application range and effective measurement volume, which in turn leads to increased flexibility, productivity and efficiency of the kmg.
Typical applications that benefit from the integration of a 4th axis include, but are not limited to, the measurement of component parts that are characterized by symmetrical or recurring features, as is the case with gas turbine disks, fan blades, gears and impellers.
The QuadSlimLine's features set new standards for precision, flexibility and performance in a wide range of calibration and inspection applications.
Ensures lower measurement uncertaintiesSub-arcsecond positioning accuracy combined with bearing geometry of less than 0.0005 mm ensures minimal impact on your process measurement inaccuracy.
Shorter inspection timesShorter setup times, increased flexibility and productivity, simplified probe configurations and part programs, higher effective measurement volume of kmg.
High load capacityThe sophisticated design of the bearing assembly guarantees not only the highest possible precision, but also a very high loading capacity.
Proven reliabilityWith over 500 installations around the world, the QuadSlimLine has proven reliable when operating at high duty cycles in production environments.
The introduction of a rotary table enables operators to make better use of the available measuring range of the kmg, providing more flexibility in what can be measured.
Figure 1 shows the impact of larger components on the usable measurement volume of a kmg. Typically, voluminous probe systems need to measure a workpiece from all sides, and this means that much of the usable measurement volume is needed just to ensure collision-free movement of the probe around the component. The areas of the component within the red boxes are therefore inaccessible and cannot be measured.
Figure 2 shows that, as an alternative to increasing the physical size of the kmg and the associated usable measurement volume, the use of a rotary axis allows you to measure larger components using smaller linear movements (see green box).
As a direct result of using a rotary axis, a much simpler probe system is required, measurement times are reduced, visibility is increased, programming is much more straightforward, and the smaller linear movements increase overall accuracy and reduce the influence of temperature variations.
The Quadrant features are designed to help you get the job done.
Sockets with air cushionsAir cushions can be incorporated into the base to allow the rotary axis to glide effortlessly over smooth, flat surfaces.
Flat profile designThe rotary axis is specially designed with the flattest possible profile to minimize its impact on the measuring volume of the kmg.
Wide range of sizes and bearing configurations Standard sizes from ø400 mm to ø1000 mm are available with two bearing configurations to better suit your individual needs.
Fully integrated solution The QuadSlimLine is designed to be fully integrated with your existing kmg control system or controlled via our Axia control system for third party products.
Zero backlash servo driveThe drive system uses a friction drive ring to ensure there is no backlash between the servo drive and the turntable it is positioning. This allows the drive to precisely position the turntable without instability, even at maximum load capacity.
Trouble-free driveThanks to the design features of the stage drive, axial and radial forces that would otherwise affect the final stage geometry are eliminated.
Encoder typesA wide range of Heidenhain and Renishaw encoders can be mounted directly on the rotary axis, providing positioning accuracies from +/-1 to +/- 0.4 arc seconds. Incremental encoder signals send 18,000 lpr to 180,000 lpr at 1 vpp to the control system or standard TTL. Distance coded and absolute encoders are also available to reduce measurement time.
Service DisplayA visible preset service indicator is installed.
Basic Position Switch The built-in limit or proximity switch serves as a home position reference in conjunction with the encoder's reference pulse.
Do you not have a 4th axis on your kmg controller? Then why not use RPI's Axia control system?
