Tool holders

Professional tool holders for all tasks

Machine tools have special holders for drills, milling cutters and similar tools. These are separate components. They belong to the class of clamping devices. They are located at the interface between the machine and the tool. They enable a quick change between different tools. It is also possible to replace the tool holder itself. This makes it possible to use tools with different properties on the same machine.

Different shapes of tool holders

The holders differ in many ways. This starts with the connections. Compatibility with a specific machine tool is determined by the standard. For example, there are drill chucks with B18, B16 or UNF 1/2 x 20 holders.

For rotating tools, there are essentially three different mounting types. These are the hollow shank taper holders (HSK), Morse taper (MK) and steep taper (SK). The HSK holders are specially designed for higher speeds. They are available in versions for up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. Morse tapers are mainly used in combination with large tools such as reamers or drills. Steep tapers are usually found in milling machines.

Advantages of a universal holder for machine tools

These holders have numerous decisive advantages in practice. One is the high precision. The clamped tools work with concentricity accuracies of up to 0.005 mm thanks to the exact fit. Secondly, a professional tool holder also increases safety. The tools used are securely locked in place and therefore do not come loose during the work process. Another point in favor of the clamping devices is the ability to use tools universally. This means that drills, milling cutters and other tools of different sizes can be used on one machine tool. Another advantage of the tool holders is that they can be changed quickly and safely. They can be changed in a few simple steps and within seconds.

Holders for CNC drills

The CNC drill chucks are available with various standard shapes on the machine side. Holders with connections in UNF 1/2 x 20, B18 and B16 are available. The CNC drill chucks are also available with different clamping ranges. As a variant with a clamping range of 1 to 16 mm for small drills and with a range of 5 to 20 mm.

The clamping devices work with three infinitely adjustable clamping jaws. This technology makes it possible to use drills with any diameter in the clamping range and to center them reliably.

Hydraulic power chucks are used for CNC machines. These can be loaded automatically via the CNC control. These can be changed either manually using a pedal or automatically using bar grippers and the CNC control. These holders have a self-centring chuck to ensure precise and central positioning of the tools.

Hollow shank taper holders for different tools

There is a particularly large selection of HSK tool holders. The HSK power chucks are available in the shapes A-63 and A-100, which are suitable for tools with high speeds. The various clamping devices are designed for 15,000 to 25,000 revolutions per minute.

HSK tool holders are available for slip-on milling cutters, screw-in milling cutters, for drills, as classic chucks and with shrink chucks. The holders for screw-in milling cutters are equipped with a thread. At TOSAG, these holders are available with M8, M10, M12 and M16 threads for tools of different sizes. This also applies to the HSK slip-on milling cutter arbor, which is available with diameters between 16 and 60 mm.

Holders with polygon shank and cutter head holders

The holders with polygon shank are available with both a Weldon chuck and a collet chuck. Holders with a Weldon chuck are used for clamping shanks that have a lateral driving surface. The cutter head holder is designed for cutter heads and milling cutters with a cross groove. The clamping range of the collet chuck is between 1 and 26 mm. A collet chuck is used for tools with a cylindrical shank in collets.

Blanks with a polygon shank are suitable for extending the tool holder universally. These are available with a length of 180 mm and with diameters of 63 and 120 mm to match the different standards of the polygon shanks.

Holders for tools according to DIN

Many of the holders in the TOSAG range are manufactured and certified in accordance with DIN specifications. This guarantees compliance with strict specifications as well as reliable and precise work. These DIN-compliant holders are compatible with the appropriate tools and machine-side holders, making them easy to replace. For example, there is the DIN 2080 combination arbor or the DIN 69871 cutter head holder. The HSK tool holders according to DIN 69893 are also part of the range.

Pull studs as accessories for clamping devices

Pull stud s fulfill important tasks for clamping devices. Precision and reliability are essential for these components. Broken pull studs can cause serious damage to components, machines and even people. It is therefore important to use high-quality pull studs. These ensure a high level of precision during work and can withstand the demands of operation. TOSAG's wide range of products includes numerous designs to suit the various mountings. These include, for example, pull studs in accordance with DIN 2080, which are suitable for a combination slip-on router arbor. These bolts are available in different diameters, with different threads and other parameters, so that the right component can be found for your own machine tool and individual application.
